MANILA, Philippines – Makati Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr. has apologized to his friend, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, over statements he made in a Philippine Star interview regarding marriage and separation.

In a statement released on Monday, Binay clarified that “he has no immediate plans of remarrying because his wife whom he loved dearly had just passed away.”

Binay also said he “needs to take care of his kids and has a city to manage as mayor.”

According to Binay, “the portion quoted by the columnist was just an aside,” and that he “said those words in jest.”

In the Philippine Star article published on Sunday, the Makati mayor was quoted as confirming that he and Aquino had gone out together and were dating.

"Yes, we are good friends. We saw the Justin Bieber concert together, and by gosh, when you’re with Kris, everybody wants to have a picture with her,” he said.

He also answered a question on whether it’s still possible for him to get married again after the death of his wife on August 11, 2009.

“Why do people marry? Because of lack of knowledge...Why do people separate? Because of lack of experience...Why do people remarry? Because of loss of memory,” he replied.

This apparently offended Aquino, who explained in her Twitter account why she got upset.

“Thanks to all. May I just explain? I got so sensitive about "getting married because of a lack of knowledge, separation is a lack of experience, remarrying is loss of memory"- the truth is james & I have learned so much & we won't forget the painful lessons we've learned,” she said.

“We r actually communicating as adult parents of our love, bimby. Just last wk I asked for his approval about a new endorsement Boy is negotiating, because we r co-parents & should be respectful of each other,” Aquino added.

Aquino said that since she and her husband, star cager James Yap, went separate ways, she has never gone out on a date with anyone.

“In the 14 months since my separation, I haven't dated anybody. I thought Jun & I were friends but after what I read I've come to the conclusion a gentleman doesn't really say stuff like that especially when it can be read as 'patama' to his friend,” she said.

Aquino also said the mayor already apologized for his statement.

She, however, said she came to realize that it would better for them “to just avoid each other so no more talk about us.” - Report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News
