Temperature in Metro Manila reached a new high on Wednesday, setting a hottest-day record this year, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) recorded a temperature of 38.0 degrees Celsius at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, duty observers from the state weather bureau’s office in Quezon City said.

This figure surpassed the previous hottest day “record" set Wednesday last week, when the temperature in Metro Manila reached 37.5 degrees Celsius, Pagasa said.

Wednesday’s temperature is only a few degrees Celsius shy of the 38.5 degrees Celsius recorded in Metro Manila on May 14, 1987 — the hottest day ever recorded in the metropolis.

Pagasa earlier said that the country will have a relief from the scorching heat come June, when the rainy season is expected to begin. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
